Plaza Flamingo

A trio of squawking parrots greets shoppers at the main entrance to this mall. We're especially fond of Wayan Natural Wear, a local chain that carries imports from Indonesia, lots of Mexican crafts (other locations are throughout Cancun), and a number of sterling-silver jewelry stores. 11.5 Blvd. Kukulcan, 52-998-883-29-45

mercado de artesanias la diana

Though smaller than the Mercado de Artesanías (see above), this market is easier to get to from the major strip hotels. Bonus: It's open late to accommodate night-owl shoppers. For their pure kitsch factor, we fell in love with the giant burlap yarn paintings of various Mexican tableaus, $30 (see above,).

Plaza Bahia

Two floors of boutiques, most of them dedicated to summery apparel, make up this compact mall. Our picks: Il Mare, which sells XOXO swimwear; and Ciao, a purveyor of D&G and Moschino. 125 Ave. Costera Miguel Aleman in the Golden Zone, 52-744-485-69-39

BleuBelle

Heather Burge first came to Savannah for a sorority formal, and the lack of shopping options—not the dance—is what left a lasting impression. A few years later, she returned to open this airy boutique, known for its hip, trend-triggering lines.

Surf-N-Sea

This is the oldest and therefore one of the most extensively stocked surf shops on Oahu. All the hang-ten essentials are found here, from extra-comfortable woven-plastic beach mats to women's Billabong apparel. It also carries Hawaiian-style accessories, like colorful aloha-print car seat covers and lines of island-made sunscreen (like the goofily-named "Surfvivor" brand).

Biasa Rose

This rambling boutique, located in Maui's quintessential hippie town, Paia, offers everything from bright, stretchy mesh tees to "forkchops," a bizarre hybrid of fork and chopstick. The petite purses that shop co-owner Patti Pottorff makes from vintage silk kimono fabric are all one-of-a-kind and well worth the 50 bucks.

Holiday & Co.

Maui's scenic upcountry—the hilly area that constitutes the center of the island—is scattered with rolling pineapple fields and cute boutiques. Holiday & Co., located in an old cowboy town called Makawao, is arguably the best. The pistachio-painted space carries everything from Seven cords to Eric Javits leather berets to comfy yoga separates by Om Girl.

Island Soap & Candle Works

For the most complete selection of this Maui-based company's soaps, stop by their factory store where employees whip up the bars right in front of customers and dry them on giant wooden racks. About 30 different scents are available, like key-lime poppy seed, and Hawaiian pineapple, with new versions constantly being introduced.

Lisa's Beauty Supply & Salon

More "beauty supply" than "salon," this well-organized shop is a veritable library of haircare products. Nearly every high-end brand is available here, from Mop to Rusk to Bedhead to Terax. A smattering of hair accessories, like tortoise Headgames barrettes, is also up for grabs.

Maui Girl

Hawaii suffers from a glut of swimwear shops, but this Paia spot stands out from the rest. Its bamboo-and-straw-decorated interior makes you feel like you're shopping in a retro tiki hut; the humongous selection of bikinis and tanks is actually nontacky, a rarity in the islands.
