Pharrell’s Hat Makes A Triumphant Return At The Oscars
When Pharrell Williams hit the Oscars red carpet tonight sans his now-infamous oversized hat, all of us felt a little empty inside. The enormous Vivienne Westwood ten-gallon topper, which the singer first debuted at the Grammys back in January and continued to wear to various press engagements afterwards, was such an instant social media sensation that it even spawned a dedicated Twitter handle, @Pharrellhat. (As of right now, @Pharrellhat boasts an impressive 21,000 followers.)
We had just begun to come to grips with the fact that the hat might’ve needed an evening off when—yes!—Pharrell took to the stage to perform his nominated song “Happy” from Despicable Me 2, hat happily perched back atop his head. To make things even sweeter, Pharrell and his hat then proceeded to dance out into the Oscars front row, taking actresses Meryl Streep and Amy Adams for a spin. We can now sleep soundly knowing that one of our favorite famous couples is still intact.
