Yves Saint Laurent Belle d'Opium
Yves Saint Laurent Belle d'Opium, $69, nordstrom.com

I loved the original Opium with such a passion that I displayed it prominently on my bedside table for years—but never wore it. The scent didn't suit my chemistry. But I loved it on other people, and I sure as hell loved looking at it.

Years later, I went to a party for the new Opium: Peacock feathers! Alexa Chung! Mary-Kate and Ashley! Surround-sound "speakers" that emitted fragrance! I loved it so much, instantly (it's warm and spicy, but with more flowers than the first, somehow lighter), that I didn't even wonder about the bottle. But between the purply, almost—Yves Klein blue of the glass and the red "cord"* that dissects the bottle (it actually brilliantly disguises the spray mechanism within the perfume), I love the look more than Opium Opium.

*  The chic red cord also bears a striking resemblance to a Red Twizzler, one of my very favorite foods of all time.
