Oil Pulling: The Weird Gwyneth Paltrow-Approved Beauty Trick You Need to Try

Last week, Divergent's Shailene Woodley made waves after revealing her all-natural beauty routine. Among her unconventional habits? Oil pulling, which I was admittedly skeptical about upon first read. Basically, you swish one to two teaspoons of vegetable based oil (coconut, sesame or olive) around your mouth for 20 minutes before eating or brushing your teeth. Sounds weird, right? But as it turns out, the practice isn't all that unusual: Gwyneth Paltrow does it and so do a number of Lucky editors.

According to New York's cosmetic dental practice Lowenberg, Lituchy & Kantor, oil pulling is an age-old remedy that's great for oral health. It whitens teeth, removes bacteria and plaque and improves gums. Paltrow told E! News that it also helps clear skin. Well, I'm officially sold. Would you try oil pulling?
