Introducing Your Newest 'Beauty Playground', From the Founder of Ricky's NYC

After leaving his namesake beauty store Ricky's NYC, Ricky Kenig quit the company in December to open a beauty store unlike any other, named Kenig + Alcone. Partnering with Vincent Mallardi of Alcone Makeup Supplies, the two have created a beauty lab solely dedicated to all things hair and makeup. Talk about a dream team—with their combined experience in the hair and makeup world, expectations were high for what the store would offer, and it does not disappoint.

The two-story shop has one floor dedicated to hair, while the second floor includes makeup and skincare. The curated selection of brands are what really make this store stand out. Kenig + Alcone exclusively sells London Brush Company and Veil Cosmetics alongside cult-faves like GlamGlow, Fekkai and Scott Barnes—plus, indie collections like Indie Lee and Koh Gen Do. Upon walking in, it is clear that this store concept is the opposite of Ricky NYC's aesthetic: the decor is minimalist and industrial, letting the products speak for themselves. The bright, unfinished plank floors and open space encourage no fuss, no muss-style browsing. They also take the concept of a "beauty lab" seriously: customers can set up appointments for a full makeup application and the store is also planning on rolling out makeup classes and workshops.

"Kenig + Alcone is the grown up version of what I began at 19," says Kenig. According to a press release, "the staff is well-educated and knowledgable, offering suggestions and making sure clients leave the ultimate beauty playground with what they want and perhaps what they didn't even know existed."

Kenig + Alcone is located at Sixth Avenue and 14th Street in NYC, with—bonus for those of you not in NYC!—an e-commerce site launching in the next few weeks.
