Rose Byrne’s latest date night-ready smoky eye is like the Goldilocks of eye makeup: not too dark, not too light, but juuust right. Luckily, we got the scoop from her makeup artist so you can recreate the look at home.

Start by using Laura Mercier Matte Eye Shadow in Buttercream all over your eyelids for a flawless base,” advises Byrne's makeup artist Georgie Eisdell. “Then mix Laura Mercier Matte Eyeshadow in Twilight Grey with NARS Eye Shadow in Namibia to get the perfect medium shade of grey. You want to blend it into the crease slightly to give it that smoky effect. Add color below your eyes for more intensity by graduating from stronger to lighter toward the inner corner under the eye.” Finally, be really generous with mascara—we’re talking three or four coats. Eisdell used CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Mascara in Black.
