WATCH: This Video Will Make You Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day For The Rest Of Your Life
We all know to slather on sunscreen when we're going to spend a sun-soaked day at the beach or the park, but let's face it: not all of us diligently apply SPF from head to toe on a daily basis—despite every dermatologist's recommendation.
In an attempt to hammer home this important message, photographer Thomas Leveritt used a special filter and camera to capture the hidden sun damage that lies beneath our skin. Under natural lighting, his participants' skin appears to be flawless, but once they step in front of the ultraviolet light camera, the transformation is quite dramatic. In many cases, the filter reveals unflattering dark spots, patches of melanin (a.k.a. freckles), funny-looking blotches and some other scary stuff that you can't see with the naked eye.
The best part of the video is when Leveritt hands his participants some sunscreen. Since UV light isn't reflected by sunblock, it appears black on camera—showing exactly how effective it is in protecting your skin. The takeaway has never been more black and white: never forget to wear your SPF!
