Here's A Hairbrush That Also Takes Selfies

Assistant to the Editor-in-Chief

Selfies are—to put it lightly—having a moment. ABC is set to premiere a new sitcom called Selfie at the end of September. The song “#SELFIE” by The Chainsmokers has been topping music charts for weeks. Kim Kardashian will soon release a 352-page Rizzoli coffee table book titled Selfish, packed with photos of her famous self. So have we reached the threshold of selfie-dom?

Meet The Selfie Brush. Compatible with your iPhone 5 and 5S, this is essentially a phone case that also happens to be a hairbrush. Our office got a sneak peek and after diligently testing this odd creation, here are some thoughts:

  • The product is efficient. Unless you’re used to Mason Pearson bristles, this paddle brush is perfectly capable of both hair-brushing and phone-protecting, as there are precise openings allowing easy access to all iPhone functions and buttons.
  • After a few months of using my Mansur Gavriel bucket bag, I can attest to the fact that it truly is a bucket. The Selfie Brush would be easy to find in those panicked moments of iPhone separation anxiety.
  • The product's official slogan? “Have your best hair in every selfie.” Let’s be honest—if you’ve ever taken a selfie, you know that a hair-related issue usually comes up. Whether you’re in a group shot or flying solo, flyaways are the enemy. Also, holding the paddle gives you a wider range of angles for your photos. Basically, having a hair brush at hand could really up your social media game.
  • You’ll always have a brush in those unexpected moments of rain, sweat, wind, dancing, etc. Preparedness = [insert thumbs-up emoji].

Until now, we’ve relied on logo-bearing, battery-charging, heavily bedazzled cases. Are those antiquated in comparison to The Selfie Brush? Only time will tell. The Selfie Brush launches in mid-September.
