Just like purple eyeshadow, blue eyeliner sometimes gets a bad rap. When it's done poorly, it can easily look like you just walked off the set of a splashy '80s music video, but done correctly, it could be an amazing way to add a pop of color for a night out.

Vanessa Hudgens' latest makeup look luckily falls as inspiration for the latter category. To recreate her cool eye look, e.l.f. makeup artist and creative director Achelle Dunaway recommends first applying an eyelid primer to lock in the color so it lasts all day. The trick is to play around with different shades of blue instead of a single color, so apply a cobalt blue liner all around the upper and lower lash lines and smudge it out. Then use a dark navy eyeliner just along the upper lash line for a cool, multi-dimensional look and top it off with black volumizing mascara. The focus here is on the eyes, so keep the rest of the face moisturized with a hydrating foundation stick with touches of bronzer on the cheekbones and the corners of your forehead for a subtle glow.
