First refresh your skin: Use blotting sheets to remove oil, and/or rehydrate your skin with moisturizer.

With a light sponge, smooth away makeup that's settled into creases to even out your complexion.

Apply a black pencil around the rim of the eye; for more drama, go over the pencil with dark shadow, smudging as you go.

A smoky eye is more sultry; a bright mouth is fresh. You can do both at once: Stick with earthy tones like brick or caramel-honey shades. And remember, if the eye is really dark, it's best if the lips aren't too shiny. Lip tints in blackberry-ish shades work, too. If you aren't doing major eyes, deep gloss is beautiful: Prime the lips with a neutral, lip-colored liner—red liner with red gloss is too bright.
