Makeup and skincare secrets to a luminous, lit-from-within complexion

7 Skincare Solutions
1. Retinoids. From powerful prescription versions to gentler over-the-counter retinols, these brighten your skin and give it a fresh appearance, says Miami/New York dermatologist Frederic Brandt: "They exfoliate and stimulate collagen growth."
2. Alpha hydroxy acids. Use alone or with retinoids to step up exfoliation, advises New York dermatologist Neil Sadick.
3. Humidifiers. "Indoor heat sucks a lot of the moisture out of the air," notes New York dermatologist Lisa Airan. "If the air is hydrated, your skin is hydrated."
4. Antioxidants. "Vitamins C and E, green tea, and grape seed oil, to name a few, give a glow, prevent inflammation, and even skin."
5. Moisturizer. If your skin gets dry in winter, a richer formula will give a clearer, dewier look. Hollywood uber-facialist Ole Henriksen says the secret is layering: "Start with a light complexion oil, and after it sinks in, smooth on SPF."
6. SPF15. At least. Every day. Glowing skin is undamaged skin.
7. Lasers. Stimulate the production of collagen and elastin; a dermatologist can help you home in on the right one for your skin.

Glowy Makeup Options
Bronzer
1. Work lightly, building color wherever the sun would catch naturally: the top of the forehead, cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose.2. Sweep it on your neck and decolletage. You don't want a glowy, healthy face and a pale neck.
3. For a tan look, put blush on first, then mellow it with bronzer, says Hollywood makeup artist Pati DuBroff: "For more color, use bronzer first and then punch it up with rosiness."
4. Self-tanner is a great bronzer alternative for low-maintenance types.
Blush
1. Smile, then sweep blush onto the apples of the cheeks in a circular motion.2. The "cinnamon bun" technique from Roncal: Work the product outward in tiny circles.
Gleam Creams
1. If you're pale, go for silvery shimmer, says celebrity makeup artist Mally Roncal. "If you're medium, try gold; if you're African-American or very tan, copper."2. Using a small brush, run shimmer across cheekbones and browbones, around tearducts, and on top of the Cupid's bow.
3. Keep these places matte: your forehead, the sides of your nose, and your chin.
