How to Look Good in Natural Light

While a major smoky eye or fire-engine red lips go a long way toward creating nighttime drama, they're not the best option for the rest of the time. Here, top MAC makeup artist Gina Bettelli gives us her pretty-in-the-harsh-sunshine tips:

Apply in actual daylight if possible. "Find the nearest window facing the sun and prop up a standing mirror. Or buy a desktop lamp with a 'daylight' bulb. It's my favorite makeup accessory."
file
Mix foundation with a great skin cream. "My secret combination: Origins A Perfect World moisturizer blends so well with any makeup."
file
Stipple foundation on with a fluffy, buffing synthetic brush. "I like this MAC No. 188—the finish is super-understated."

Blush is so flattering. "Mineralized powder formulas in particular have a delicate sparkle and versatility."

Brighten your eyes with pale yellow. "I line my always red and tired-looking inner rims with this pencil."
