Serious Question About Cleansing Pads!

2009_08_cleansingpad.jpgI typically use these in one of two circumstances: I desperately need to wash my face and cleanser and a sink are nowhere nearby, or my face is looking terrible, and I feel like if a salicylic acid drenched acne pad can’t fix it, then nothing can. But I’ve never thought of using them all the time, as my everyday cleanser. But somebody probably is. Is this you? And do you have clearer skin because of it?

On a side note, my face has been looking, sort of, terrible recently, so I have been thinking of going on a week-long cleansing pad challenge to see if there are any real changes.

Beauty Emergency Averted, Thanks to Josie Maran's Argan Oil Stick

josie maran argan oil stick.jpgI packed many moisturizers in anticipation of the incredibly dry air on my Colorado vacation, but the only—and I mean only—product that actually helped was Josie Maran’s argan oil stick. The small stick form made it through security with no problem, and it completely cured all my dryness, plus it gave my skin this glowiness that lasted for hours.

Lucky Sunblock Obsession: Korres Watermelon Suncare Stick

korres sunblock stick.jpgLucky creative director Andrea Linnett wrote about this sunblock in the July issue of Lucky, but I love it too, and here’s why: It's the size of a glue stick, it's super easy to get spots around your ears, eyes and nose, and it has the prettiest, pinkish hue that gives cheeks a sweet tint (which beats a hard-to-rub-in whitish pallor). It's incredibly moisturizing—it can do the same job as my primary face cream. All with the most fantastic watermelon scent.

Two Perfect Sunblocks for the Breakout-Prone

2009_07_babysunscreen.jpgMy skin does not like heavy sunblock. I break out more in the summertime, and greasy sunblock exacerbates the problem. To keep it clear (and protected), I've discovered these versions for babies: They're super-gentle, which for me, somehow translates into doesn't-cause-acne.

The Aveeno is incredibly lightweight, and this cute stick from Neutrogena is so small I just leave it in my bag, plus they both have a super-high SPF.

Ultimate Summer Stain

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Covergirl_outlast_lipstains.jpgRight now, I just don't want much color on my lips. The new lip stains from CoverGirl are perfect: Not sticky or glossy, and what I love almost as much as the foolproof, perfectly-matte lipstick effect is the magic-marker pen it comes in. (Since it sits right next to my keyboard, it's doubled as an actual pen on more than one occasion.)

MY HAIR VS. THE RAIN

UMI dfuse.jpgAs noted on this blog, it’s been raining for weeks here in New York, which means my hair is doing the exact opposite of what I want it to do.  The solution: this lightweight serum from UMI.  The tiniest drop has the effect of a shine spray, hairspray, and a full-on frizz-fighting serum all in one, without the stickiness at all. It’s working for me right now, but of course I'm dying to know your solutions--please!

ASK A BEAUTY EDITOR: fuchsia lip gloss

bquestion.jpgQ: I like fuchsia glosses and lipsticks; however, every time I
put it on it never simone.jpglooks right with my skin tone.  Can you
recommend a fuchsia gloss/lipstick that works well with a warm tone?  I am also very pale, you may need to take that into consideration.

A: I, too, like fuchsia gloss. As it’s been documented, I can’t wear red, so I veer toward balms with a hint of pink or berry.

korres_quince.jpgWith such a bold color like fuchsia, start sheer: This lip butter from Korres is amazing.  Cat’s favorite is this bright pink lip balm from Tarte, which gets deeper as you layer it on.  If you want a true deep fuchsia, try the Nars lip pencil in Funny Face, which goes on matte but has a lipstick effect. (Cristina's been obsessed ever since she picked up this tip from our July My Maintenance subject, Erin McKenna!)
