Here's something: I have the shoulders of a linebacker. This is one of those issues (along with my rather large ribcage) that fashion writers rarely address when they talk about "dressing for your shape," but both exist for me, and they're definitely something I have to dress around. My personal solution has been to avoid button-downs at all costs, wear vests with pride, go for scoopneck shirts, and choose blazers that you don't have to close. Here is where tuxedo jackets come in—the women's styles are usually narrow and fitted, and they look great worn open. So, when paired with wide leg jeans or A-line minidresses, everything appears sleek and balanced, like a well-proportioned female, not a collegiate rower. Here are some styles I'm eyeing today: A great deal from Theory, Vivienne Westwood's offbeat take, and a truly perfect vintage find. So tell me: What are you dressing around?

Right now, all I can think about is how
I should be prancing around in cute sandals, and the styles from beloved (though little known) Brazilian designer Chie Mihara might be my favorite things on the planet. Searching eBay today, I was thrilled to find several Mihara pairs listed at less than half their original cost. True, the price tags still aren't cheap, but this is seriously well-made footwear with the kind of unique designs that will look great for years. I'm loving this bright, T-strap version, this offbeat take on the saddle shoe, this , and these, in silver, which I want to wear (perhaps with the hat?) to one of the weddings I have this summer.
Also, if you're looking for shoes right now, check out Lucky's Under $100 accessories guide. I'm still in awe over one very cool pair that's from ... Payless.
I read the fashion blog Style Bubble religiously. The girl who writes it is adorable and has an awesome, original way with clothes that I completely admire. This week, she introduced quirky hats from the line Tour de Force, and now I'm obsessed with wearing one to a wedding this summer. But, someone might need to stop this instinct stat.
The terrific vintage resource Shop My Closet has been especially rad lately—I might sell a cat for this
gorgeous Opening Ceremony coat.
Sometimes New Yorkers are so nice, I want to cry: A Manhattan dry cleaner is offering free services for unemployed folks who need clean job interview outfits. We should all send them flowers or something.
Don't miss it: The excellently stocked Posh Vintage (a Lucky favorite site) is having a big sale. 25 percent off everything on the site!
Lastly, Gwyneth Paltrow is designing clothes! I'm almost embarrassed at how excited I am about this news.

Some days, I like to troll around eBay pretending I'm a fancy lady with tons of money who can buy anything she wants. I look at lavish bags, vintage designer finds, and pristine Danish dining tables and feel such a rush. This is actually a strange fantasy to have, because if I were rich I'd probably spend my money in a store where there could be no wrong-description surprises, but it's still a form of make-believe I indulge in.
The thing is, while I have friends who buy pricey shoes,
jewelry, and even art and big-ticket furniture on the site (and feel like they're getting a deal), I've always looked to eBay for really unusual, inexpensive finds—and as a way to get trend-focused pieces on the cheap.
The most costly item I ever purchased by online auction was a $200 dresser, which had to be picked up at the Port Authority bus station, arrived kind of scuffed up, and had drawers that were so shallow and narrow that I can't even fit two towels in them (my husband hates this dresser). I'm curious: Do you look for luxury goods on eBay?

Lucky's gorgeous and wonderful market editor, Noria, inspired today's post. She has a super-fun page in the magazine's May issue all about her favorite butterfly pieces. Now, usually all things lepidopteran make me think of Mariah Carey (and not in a good way), but Noria's picks were so feminine and ethereal that they made me want to track down similar items immediately. Lucky for me, this morning's eBay search for "butterflies" turned up some awesome results: I love the glam, early-'80s temptress vibe of these sunglasses; this scarf would be flirty and cute with a spring coat; here's a dress with a great cut and a pretty, not-too-fussy print; and finally, is it wrong that I want an actual framed butterfly to hang in my apartment?

Lately, part of my job has required doing radio interviews, which has set me up with two problems:
1. Even though I'm usually talking about straightforward topics like spring-cleaning your closet or how to wear a scarf, I never seem to get radio timing right: I never really know when to make a joke, and most embarrassing of all, I never know how to respond to jokes being made. (During a recent segment, I believe I retorted
"Wocka, wocka!" which, thankfully, was edited out.)
2. When you record a radio interview from home, you can't use a cell phone. When I tried, I sounded like I was underwater and actually got yelled at by the host.
So, I need a landline and a solid, not-crackly phone to go with it. I'm not exactly angling for a hamburger phone, but I kind of want something fun and vintage that will look cute on my desk. This stylish black one is my favorite, but—alas—the seller says it's a little crackly. I also like this red version even though a red phone seems way more important than what I'm doing. There's a sleek brown style that'd look cool against my white desk, and I also like this off-white rotary model, if for no other reason than it reminds me of the one my grandmother had. Now, a question: Does anyone have a landline anymore? The radio lady thought it was insane that I use my BlackBerry for everything, but to me, her request seemed deeply rooted in 1998.
All the buzz last week surrounding Italian designer Valentino had me feeling a little starstruck and jealous of the high-fashion, dreamily glamorous life most of us will never have. Celebs were downright smitten with Valentino: The Last Emperor, the new documentary about "Va Va" (as Gwyneth calls him) and the parties surrounding the premiere seemed seriously fabulous. Man, I want to be drinking and mugging with Madonna! I want a famous person to spill red wine all over my white dress just like Anne Hathaway! You get the idea. My only recourse is to purchase some of Valentino's stuff—like an elegant red cocktail dress or a ballerina-in-a-good-way style, a sleek coat, and these beyond hot heels. I'll put these on, create some going-out hair and makeup, and wear the whole look to a place where I can feel like the chicest girl in the room.

I'm just going to admit it: I love, am obsessed with, and get most of my style inspiration these days from the ladies of Gossip Girl. However, that didn't keep me from feeling a little creeped out by this Rolling Stone cover and its accompanying girls-on-Twizzlers inside pictorial.
In other news, Michelle Obama broke my (and Stylelist's) heart just a wee bit this week with these boots; bloggers over at Frisky pointed out that $60 padded panties might be an uncomfortable bit of false advertising (I agree); and after seeing the spectacular, all-female M??tley Cr??e tribute band Girls Girls Girls live (listen to them here), I am tempted to start searching eBay for some serious, hell-hath-no-fury leather.

And, last, a major shopping tip for us vintage-obsessed folks: Shop at Mod Cloth. It's an adorable online store with tons of unique, affordable finds—mostly vintage and vintage-inspired clothes, shoes, and accessories—that I always want. I have a major retail crush on all of their new spring dresses and skirts, most of which are under $100.

I love jacket season, but somehow, through one blunder or another, I always I miss it. I'm constantly afraid of freezing, I keep wearing my winter coat for too long, and then suddenly, it's just too hot. Sad. But this year I'm obsessed with spring outerwear, to the point that I've already purchased a swingy red style like this one, a pleather hoodie from
Urban Outfitters, and am currently on the hunt for the perfect gray raincoat/trench. (I really wanted a little yellow coat, but found that yellow does not work with my new red hair, which, by the way, I now hate.) Anyway, there are amazing gray jackets on eBay—so many that it's hard to choose. So ... which do you like best:
A classic version by Gryphon? This grown-up-lady short look? Pale gray with a touch of blue (so fun!) by London Fog? Triple 5's '80s collar-arama? Or, this, which I think might be crazily cool, or maybe, well, just crazy.

You know how there are things, accessories-wise, that you just don't really get? The kind of item you attempted to pull off but ultimately looked so bad that you vowed never to try again? Well, after years (decades?) of identifying myself as an earrings girl, and trying (but failing) with necklaces, there has been a subtle shift in my style personality. I am here to declare that I am now crazy for necklaces. I love them all, but especially elaborate gold pieces—the bigger the better. Today on eBay, I am crazy about this chain-link choker, a pricey-yet-awesome Chanel version, and this sculptural style, which is similar to a piece Jessica Szohr (our April cover girl!) wore this week on Gossip Girl.
