American Apparel saved my life this weekend. I was running late for dinner reservations with some friends on Friday night and my boyfriend was rushing me out the door. The corseted sundress I threw on felt a little snug, but I didn't have time to think of a new outfit. I figured I could deal with it until I was on the subway en route to the restaurant. That's when I realized I could barely sit, let alone eat in this dress. Panicking, and extremely uncomfortable, I knew I had to find something else to wear asap. That's when I saw American Apparel. I ran in, picked up
this adorable tulip skirt in grey and one of their
unisex v-neck tees and was in and out with a new outfit for $50 in less than 10 minutes. That's a good deal no matter what the circumstance! And it looked so cute that no one, save myself and my boyfriend, had any clue it wasn't the outfit I had planned to wear all along.

Don't you guys find that the minute it starts to get really hot, it becomes exceedingly difficult to get dressed in the morning? This is particularly true on the weekends, when I find myself reaching for either some sort of shirt dress, or a slouchy tee. Which is why I went into Gap the other day to check out the
CFDA offerings (the Vena Cava
dress is super cute, but alas, I've seen too many of them on girls on the street to buy one for myself), and found myself stocking up on these
henleys instead. They're fitted, yet slouchy, and the neat little row of buttons are nicely spaced, which means that you can unhook a few without feeling like you're falling out of your shirt.

I know the idea is not quite original, but I can never seem to have enough floral skirt options--especially if they only set me back $20.
This daisy print one by Tracy Feith for Target is too perfect: just the right amount of volume and isn't too short to wear to the office. I'd rock this with a black top and some tough heels, so the overall look doesn't come across as being too feminine. Why am I such a sucker for these Target designer collaborations? Are you?

Camisoles are essential to every wardrobe and yet, it can be surprisingly difficult to find good, versatile ones that work with a variety of outfits.
Alternative Apparel's sheer spaghetti tank is the most perfect layering piece I've come across. I literally wear one every day. The color selection and cut of the tank work with anything and everything. And they look great on their own, too.

I want an under-the-radar bag to take with me
when I travel abroad—something lightweight, durable, and compact. Low-key is a must, but even though I'm not really looking to score major fashion points here, I don't want anything that looks too outdoorsy either. And for the sake of making me less of a target for pickpocketers, (I was mugged once in
Florence—by a gaggle of little girls no less!—and have been paranoid ever since) I'd like it to have zippers and I'd like to be able to wear it slung across my chest (which is also the most comfortable, convenient style to carry for any extended period of time). This LeSportsac bag checks all my prerequisites. I love that it has several different compartments for organizing my stuff, and the nylon material it's made out of is exceptionally rugged though weighs next to nothing.
Buy it here for $38.

Right now,
I just don't want much color on my lips. The
new lip stains from CoverGirl
are perfect: Not sticky or glossy, and
what I love almost as much as the foolproof, perfectly-matte
lipstick
effect is the magic-marker pen it comes in. (Since it sits right next to my keyboard, it's doubled as an actual pen on
more than one occasion.)
