Carry On

I just retired the much-loved but totally battered laptop I had been dragging around everywhere for years (some of the keys were so worn in I could no longer read the lettering, and at some point I must have dropped it and it was literally starting to split in two—scary!) in favor of a shiny new MacBook that I'm already completely obsessed with. With that purchase came the question of what to carry it in, and after poking around for a while, I decided on this sleeve by Incase. It's made of durable neoprene with extra padding in the interior to make sure the computer is protected, and it's very lightweight. Design-wise it's pleasingly free of bells and whistles, and it rings in at a very reasonable $34.95. There are a bunch of colors to choose from, though I went with this matches-everything olive green.

i just got a MacBook, too (my computer was in just as bad of shape as yours, if not worse!) and I've been eyeing those cases. I was in the store today and really liked the burgundy, but they didn't have the olive green in the store.

did you know these covers are approved by security at the airports and you do not have to take your laptop out of your case?! i realized this heading back to the midwest for christmas and was delighted, although it would have been great to know this three years ago when i started lugging my (huge) 17" across the country!

Carrie: Great question re: airport security! I didn't know the answer offhand, so I got in touch with someone at InCase to find out. Here's what she had to say:

"Yes, our Neoprene Sleeves (as well as our Slim Sleeves) are indeed checkpoint friendly. Our sleeve design existed before the TSA issued the laptop bag guidance for airport security checkpoints, so though the sleeves were not designed specifically in accordance with the guidance, I can tell you from personal experience (as well as the experiences of many of my colleagues) that they do pass through security without incident. The TSA doesn't certify or approve any designs, so it's not in any of our marketing, but we are considering adding it as a listed feature on our website."

I'm thrilled to have one less thing to fuss with at airport security! Thanks for asking!
