Making a Cameo
In the past I, maybe like you, have viewed cameo jewelry the way one sees handknit doilies or Jean Naté body powder or those dolls that sit on toilet paper rolls: They were clearly for older ladies who perhaps had grandchildren, but not for me. Then lately, something has been happening. It's as if cameo jewelry has waged a campaign to woo me into its uppity little carved-faced bosom. And I don't think I'm alone. I've recently seen these white-on-peach pendants on hipster girls in both New York and L.A. to really cool effect (combined with a bunch of delicate chains, worn simply with fancy hair and a black crewneck sweater). They're a little nod to modesty in an immodest world. Or something. On eBay today, I like this classic version, a super-delicate style, and this one in blue.
