In vaguely sexist, pitting-brunettes-against-blondes news: resolving six decades of indecisiveness, Archie has proposed to raven-haired Veronica "filthy rich" Lodge over Betty "dishwater" Cooper, who has posted a blog titled "The Saddest Girl in the World." It's all very Brangelina/Aniston, no? (Yeah, Betty blogs. On the also-in-existence Archie website. It's sort of like...the apocalypse.) (New York Post, Archiecomics.com)
Stila is the official makeup brand of the LA Laker girls! Hot. Vaguely related: the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders have to take this quiz as part of their tryout. We got every question wrong (YES, even the Iraq one; we're not GEOGRAPHERS, okay?). So. That's ONE dream deferred. (Steeping Beauty, Dallas News)
Bobbi Brown is doing three one-hour appearances on QVC this Saturday at midnight, 11 AM, and 5 PM ET, respectively. And when we went to the schedule with snarky intentions (as is, of course, the Beauty News custom), we found Kate Somerville (AWESOME skincare) tonight at 9:30 ET! Then next Tuesday, YSL BeauteA is on at 6 AM and 7 PM. And Nude Skin Care Wednesday at 10 PM ET! Wow. Snarkiness deferred! (QVC)
Finally! Someone shares our secret belief that Amy Winehouse is a beauty icon. Forget the acne and the crackne and the smackne or whatever it is for a second, and consider her amazing liner and hair! Come on! Iconic style requires eccentricity and risk-taking! Watch how to achieve "the Wino" here. (StyleBell)
Lucky was ahead of the goat's-milk-as-skincare curve with our groundbreaking October '07 report on it's soothing and glowifying properties (i.e. Secret Ingredient: Goat's Milk). Now Splendicity has posted this recipe for a goat's milk facial. We're not always enthusiastic about DIY beauty, but we will always—ALWAYS—support goats. (Splendicity, Lucky)

-First
Michael, now Marilyn: A selection of Ms. Monroe's clothes and personal effects will be auctioned next month in L.A. Which begs the question: Is it morbid to buy items of the dead? I know I'd be interested in MM's umbrella (left), but not so much
the robe she wore when she died.
-We're just going to say it: We heart her style, but we
fundamentally DISAGREE with Ms. Chloe "vintage footwear can be a little funky-in a bad way" Sevigny's vintage shopping habits. (

-Magenta is the hot new color for fall! Woot! How girly and lovely! Seriously, think of the many eBay searches to come! (

-And, last, Will Ferrell has launched a sunscreen line. It is being sold
on eBay. All of this is very confusing.

There are very few things that can distract me from online shopping. Except, it seems, ABC's
Wipeout, which made me laugh so hard I almost dropped my computer before passing out (Yes! It was that intense! I had to put my head between my knees!). I'm not sure what it was about watching people eat it on a slippy obstacle course, but I found myself meditating on this seemingly loud, but totally
wearable top in the minutes after. It's black and white, which makes it a cinch to integrate into my wardrobe, and it's a deal at $22.50. Plus, I've been stockpiling relaxed t-shirts like this to counter with a fancy blazer and black jeans. But now, back to Wipeout. Have you guys seen it???
At the beginning of
Diane Kruger's day-long photo shoot in New York for our June cover, she was flipping through the April issue
and fell in love with one of the looks: Splendid's bohemian floral
blouse paired with Charlotte Ronson's high-waist skirt, from "The
Prettiest Spring Florals" story. We spent all day tracking down the two
pieces and gave them to her as a surprise present at the end of the
shoot. I guess she wasn't kidding when she said she loved the
look--here she is spotted at the Cote d'Azur in the exact same outfit!

Hopefully by now I haven't totally bored you with
my tie-dye fetish. I just discovered Love Tanjane's hand-dyed jersey dresses and they're too good not to spread the word. They're made in Ojai, which seems a very appropriate setting for the glamorous, California-in-the-70's vibe of the collection. I imagine getting tons of use out of
this strapless tube dress that doubles as a skirt. It's a relatively reasonable $128 and comes in a bunch of colors, though I like the black and white best.
The ankle-length halter, $184, is another great option (still not convinced? Check out this photo of
Nicole Richie looking incredibly foxy in it with braided hair and a snakeskin clutch) and I love the swirly mustard-blue it comes in.

A recent discussion raged between my fellow editors when I announced that I had located my
Nars Himalayas eye shadow that I wore to my junior prom.A It became clear that none of us knew the answer to this very pressing question.
The
FDA website has its theories:A Foundation should only be kept up to six months.A Concealers with wand applicators should be discarded after six months because wands are highly likely to grow bacteria.A Mascara shouldA be thrown out after 3 months—again because of the wand and the proximity to your eye.A Lipsticks, pressed powders, and lip/eye pencils are deemed legit for up to a year.
The FDA notes that cosmetics that have been improperly stored (exposed to high temperatures, sunlight, or opened for too long) may expire far before their actual expiration date.A My thing is to pay close attention to the consistency of the product.A If it changes in any way—it’s probably a good idea to toss it.A I think we could all use a spring cleaning of the makeup drawer—or if you love products as much as we do—makeup closet!

It's not a difficult proposition to find perfectly
on-trend pieces for
under $100
at this Korean megasite. But I think it might be a coup to find four pieces that all theoretically work so well for summer. I want this
bow-fronted blouse to tuck into high-waisted pencil skirts; this long,
linen blazer to wear over floaty dresses; this
slouchy v-neck with pockets to dress up skinny jeans; and, if I were a little bit shorter, this swingy, pocket-bedecked
cotton dress. Plus, if you order in quasi-bulk, it mitigates the shipping charges (i.e. spend more than $150 and they'll send it

for free).
