Glamorous Vintage Necklaces Under $50

I was perusing Sophia Reyes' new e-commerce site when I clicked on "one of a kind" and discovered that this Chicago-based designer also knows her vintage necklaces. Here are two of my favorite that she's selling online, both hovering around the $50 mark, and both of which have an amazingly luxurious, early 80s YSL quality to them. Snatch these up quick!

Loving Sequins

I am not Sasha Fierce, but I sure would like to be. Specifically, at the 2009 BET Awards. Balmain and sequins make me weak in the knees. As soon as I saw this ensemble, I went on a mad internet search to turn myself into Ms. Fierce. There are plenty of awesome sequin dresses out there, but the tropical floral motif on Beyonce's is what makes me need it in a bad, bad way. Pageant and prom dress maker extraordinaire, Sherri Hill offers this version, and I'm seriously thinking about pre-ordering it. I find the paisley mesmerizing, but I'm not 100 percent sold on the sweetheart neckline. Should I take the plunge?

Dear Etsy: I need to own this tank top. No, really.

Sometimes I see a piece of clothing that I know I must own , something that I will go to any ends to buy so that I can wear it immediately, often, and for many years. When this happens (which is rarely), it's an aggressive, passionate, exciting, almost primal shopping experience--a little bit like falling in love--and it always results in my favorite things in my wardrobe.

I had that old feeling today when I spotted this outrageously good, unique and kind of Muppet-like ruffled tank top on Etsy. It's made by New York designer Patricia Ayres (she's also an artist) whose work is feminine and sculptural and somehow thought-provoking, the way the best fashion can be. The tank also comes in off-white, plum, and an army green (each is $48); but I'm going with the black and will be wearing it with a denim skirt and red peep-toe wedges, stat.

P.S. When did I become a person who says "stat"? Erg.

Forget About Flats

I'm 5' 11" and am always in flats (if I wear anything else, I get questions like 'How's the air up there?'). But Heather Summerville (who is in heels every day) persuaded me to dive in and try a pair of really hot, teeteringly high stilettos for a party, and she was right! I felt incredibly daring--also somewhat unstable, but once I anchored myself to a stool it was all good.

For the Twilight Obsessed...

Twilight mania has taken over the world as well as the Lucky office, and I've totally been bitten. I think I have finally found a way for us Twihards (ahem... Julia Topolski...ahem Jenny Kang) to show our dedication* to Edward Cullen without looking like we ride a yellow school bus every morning: fang necklaces! I quite fancy the oxidized silver version, but I think Julia would look great in gold and Jenny in silver.

*dedication could mean borderline obsession/infatuation

Essential Classic

Flipping through The Lucky Guide to Mastering Any Style, I tried to convince myself I was a mix of two of the iconic looks, Euro Chic and Posh Eclectic. Alas, no matter how obsessed I may be with Marni-esque style, the number of plain white button down shirts I own far outnumbers anything else in my closet which makes my look American Classic. What can I say, I do love a button down shirt and there is no better spokesperson for us "White Shirt Lovers Club"* than the ever stylish, great American designer, Carolina Herrera. She has made the white shirt her uniform and pairs them with everything from slacks to voluminous taffeta floor length skirts for evenings. How genius! My favorite white shirt site is polo.com because you can monogram them.

INADVERTENT SEPHORA SPENDING SPREE

From: Hope Greenberg

To: Cristina Mueller

Subject: ...

...so I just came back from Sephora, where I went to buy one tube of sunscreen and ended up with $130 worth of products, among them Bliss' Vanilla+Bergamot Body Butter. Normally, I hate anyfood-related fragrance on my body, but the vanilla just takes the edge off the bergamot and you're left with an exotic, spicy scent that reminds me of a Moroccan bazaar.

What Kind Of Underwear Wearer Are You?

I happened to call my friend Iman in LA last night as she was running to the Only Hearts store to stock up on lingerie. Turns out it's something of a uniform for her—she swears by their Second Skins line and wears it daily ("pretty yet super-comfortable and totally disappears under whatever you have on" she says). She also acknowledged her compulsion for matching undergarments, a concept I find kind of fascinating, if only because I'm the complete opposite and have never coordinated undies a day in my life. To me it sounds like a lot of effort/extra laundry (does anyone really wash a bra after every wear?), though Iman's formula is this: for every one bra, she buys 4 pairs of underwear (3 boy shorts and 1 thong to be exact). Now I'm curious: what about the rest of you? Do you guys go the matchy-matchy lingerie route or are you content mixing things up?Read More

Odd things I buy compulsively: Milagros

Everytime I go to Mexico, or to a Mexican import store, my hand always wafts over the tray of Milagros by the cash register. And invariably I buy at least two (I arrange them on the edge of my kitchen counter which means that they're constantly slipping behind the cabinetry, which is why I feel compelled to constantly replenish my stock). I think they're really beautiful and I love any permutation of hammered tin—plus, they just look so old-world. I can't remember ever seeing them in necklace form, which is why I flipped for these gold necklaces by Erica Weiner. I want at least three, to wear all at once.
