Trend For Fall: Nude Layers
Our beauty editor, Cat Marnell, is rocking the ultimate combination of nude layers today. Knowing that the nude trend is marching on into fall (check out the look from Rochas' fall 2009 collection at left), I was dying to try to recreate her outfit which, I'm finding, is not as easy as I thought. Nude is a tough color: First, there's the risk of looking like you went out in your underwear. Then there's the danger of picking the wrong shades which can produce a very unflattering pallor. And possibly most problematic: There's the see-through issue which means you can end up piling on more layers than you intended to get the coverage you need.
Cat got it right because she started with a slip dress that's nude witha bronze cast that looks amazing with her glowy tan. She then layered anude tee with a mauve cast over the dress. She finished the whole lookwith a nude-ish brown woven leather sandal that gave it all an earthyspin.
Here's what I came up with. I like this strapless tube dress from Urban Outfitters for theshade and the versatility (it can also be a top or a skirt) This American Apparel tee in mauve is similar to Cat's color, and these are perfect leather sandals.
But I'mreally after a nude silk slip which I didn't manage to find. If anyonecomes up with one, let me know.
