Lollapalooza Awards, Best Overall Style: Lykke Li. For SURE.
Swedish singer (and buzzed-about-all-weekend Lollapalooza performer) Lykke Li makes lovely, breathy-dance-y music. She also has killer, sort of Alexander Wang-meets-Kate Moss style. Her outfit for our interview was even better up close: the blazer looked part silk, the black slips were chiffon-y and floaty and layered, and the jewelry and smoky makeup were perfect. My favorite was the cut-off, shredded black tights she wore like little shorts (photo below) peeking out from just below her hem. Totally copying that. Read on for Lykke's style advice...
CM: So! Let's go through what you're wearing.LL: I think it's all vintage--I'm crazy vintage freak. Vintage slips, vintage sunglasses, vintage rings. My grandmother made this necklace [the one below with the crystal pendant]. My bag is by the Swedish designer Filippa K.; these shoes are from Portugal.
CM: So you do a lot of vintage shopping?
LL: Checking out the stores everywhere is my favorite thing to do on tour. Like what I'm wearing today comes from all different places: Portland, Stockhom, Minneapolis, India...
CM: Who are your style inspirations?
LL: Johnny Depp...Keith Richards. Edie Beale. I mean, anyone who doesn't...like, overdress, I guess. Marlon Brando. I really don't like wearing really tight things. I like loose clothes. So I don't know. Whoever.
CM: Do you like wearing makeup?
LL: I do, but I wear more for stage. I like to pile on the lashes. But always, I only use black. I hate color. I'll do like an Edie Sedgwick look--nude lips, too.
CM: What beauty products do you use?
LL: I use black Shiseido shadow liner. Shiseido makes really good products--Chanel as well. I have Chanel [nude lipstick] on my lips.
CM: And what about your perfume?
LL: Right now, Narciso Rodriguez.
CM: What advice would you give someone who wants to copy your style?
LL: Stick to black. Like, I wear black in the f*&%ing desert. And don't wear tight things. Like...I wear a big black sweater always, you know? Just stick to what's comfortable.
