Alexandra is wearing Levi's "boyfriend jean" cutoffs, a vintage gold belt, and a vintage silk shirt from Spenser Jeremy. Rebecca is wearing a Red Star dress from a boutique in Shanghai, a Banana Republic necklace, a Topshop owl ring, and Sam Edelman shoes.
While music critics rave over indie band Ra Ra Riot's debut album, The Rhumb Line, we're obsessed with cellist Alexandra Lawn's and violinist Rebecca Zeller's outfits. The duo agreed to give Lucky an exclusive glimpse of their tour wardrobe; first up, what they wore to play All Points West.
Alexandra: For All Points West, we were in Jersey, so I thought something that was reminiscent of "Jersey" style would be fun to do. That's why I chose this shirt, which is so over-the-top glam. I paired it with some cut-off shorts, and belted it to give it some shape.
Rebecca: When deciding what to wear for a festival, it is important to keep in mind the wind factor. There have been shows where I have forgotten this and have had to shove my skirt between my legs every two minutes to keep from flashing the whole audience. I just got this dress on vacation in Shanghai, so wearing it reminds me of the great time I had in China. The necklace was a birthday present from another best friend, and I love it! The ring is my current favorite accessory, I wear it pretty much all the time.
Lucky: What are your beauty and fashion obsessions?
Alexandra: I love finding trinkets and making necklaces out of them--you can create accessories that really accent your outfit. Jewelry and shoes are my biggest obsessions. I wish I could play in heels! Also, eye makeup is my jam (especially M.A.C. products). I love outrageous colors, sparkles, exaggerated lines and lashes, but I keep everything else on the face pretty simple.
Rebecca: My owl ring, Chanel Celadon eyeliner, Chanel Inimitable Mascara, Tigi/Bedhead Dumb Blonde Smoothing Stuff (the best de-frizzer EVER), Bare Minerals (the best summer face makeup), and scarves -- they're a great accessory.
Lucky: What inspires your style? How do your styles differ?
Alexandra: My style is a bit eclectic. I like to juxtapose things that you may not normally put together -- certain patterns and textures, things from different eras (old and new, vintage with contemporary). I'm still working on it, but hopefully I will master this at some point.
Rebecca: It's obvious that Allie and I have very different styles. I'm a bit more conservative. I'd like to think that I have original style, but I'm sure that I'm subconsciously inspired by what the looks I see on the street. I'm pretty into fashion (in the sense that I love to see what's new) and am confident about what I like and don't like. If I think it looks good and I feel confident in it, that's really all that matters.
