Fashion Week Scorecard: Calvin Klein
The Scene: An austere white space, adjacent to the Calvin Klein showroom, fitted with steel benches topped with gray flannel cushions
The Celebs: Kerry Washington, Thandie Newton, Eva Mendes, Rose Byrne
The Music: A strong piano rhythm with syncopated bells--a little jazz-like, a little monastic
The Models: Interesting, intense faces like Sasha, Jac, Fridaand Anabela with low, wet, slightly-textured ponytails, scrubbed facesand natural pink lips
The Look: We've come to expect some form of architecturalminimalism from Francisco Costa at Calvin Klein. Usually, this comeswith a severity and stiffness that were nowhere to be found in hisspring 2010 collection. Instead, the minimalism was worked into airy,cloud-like clothes that seemed to waft off the models' bodies. Thestunningly beautiful parade of neutral looks involved fabrics like silkorganza-banded cotton, needle-punched silk organza, and double-facedsilk melange with mohair, cut into floaty tank and one-sleeve dresses;gently curving blazers; effortlessly volumized thin lapel coats andlong, paneled flowing skirts. There were a few colored dresses (inaqua, jade, citron and coral) that played perfectly off the neutrals. And the shoes, the only accessories, were simple either T or anklestrap low-wedge sandals. It's not that often that you watch a show andwant to see it over again as soon as it finishes to be able to take ineven more of the details, but that's exactly how it felt at thisstand-out collection at the close of New York fashion week.
What We Loved: The mohair jacquard dresses; the ethereal feeling of all the looks
