Fashion Week Scorecard: Derek Lam
The Show: Derek Lam
The Scene: Delightfully relaxed Sunday brunch
The Music: Retro wartime crooning to start, switching to a swaggeringly sexy cha-cha
The Models: Curled-and-fluffed Victory Roll updos and abbreviated David Bowie-as-Ziggy Stardust style makeup--think two-color eyeshadow elongated to the temples
The Look: Fun, summery (and slightly kitschy) 1940s Key West glamor with some slinky Studio 54 mixed in. And not a single pair of pants in sight--it's all about riffs on the tea dress shape (even if it's a blouse and skirt combo).
What We Loved: The prints! The luscious color! Particularly mini polka dots mixed with graphic oversize florals, wheat-hued summer suedes, star prints, and lots of evening sparkle. His accessories are supremely covetable: vaguely nautical chunky wooden platforms with rope lace ups around the ankle, gold chain handle box bags in chic white with black trim, and oversize gold totes with slightly askew front pockets.
