Maayan Zilberman's European Vacation: Honors and New Fashion Fixations in London

My co-designer at The Lake & Stars, Nikki Dekker, and I love going to London--mainly for the fried candy bars--and we were recently included in a show about the evolution of lingerie at The Fashion and Textile Museum. We were thrilled that they displayed our bodysuit that Sarah Jessica Parker wore in Sex in the City: The Movie .

That movie had marked a turning point for our line, when people started to notice how much The Lake & Stars can cross over into other parts of your wardrobe.

And at opening night we got to see a lot of other designers' work. We especially loved the vintage Lucite bustiers from Issey Miyake, shoulder-padded bras from Mugler, and, of course, anything they had by Gaultier.

A benefit of attending anything in our industry (the "lingerie industry", that is...) is that we're not expected to be entirely dressed. It was a perfect opportunity to sport my favorite new geometric tights, whose pattern reminds me of dazzle ships from World War II. I am fixated on any sort of pattern that looks like the artist-designed camouflage commissioned for war ships. I'd love to make a line of tights that incorporates more of this idea!
