Postcard from Milan: Gucci
Fashion director Hope Greenberg reports from the runways of Milan.
Mary J Blige is GORGEOUS! She was sitting directly across the runway from us at Gucci and it was hard not to stare (okay, we didn't even try to hide it) at how glowy and totally hot she looked and how happy she seemed to be there. After the paparazzi pack finished with MJB, the show began and our focus turned to the clothes.
This season Frida Giannini took on techno-sport. She used stretchy, tight fabrics and added details like mesh, lacing, cut-outs and silver hardware to silhouettes.
The show opened with a mostly black, white, and gray lineup that included legging-like pants; slashed "tennis" dresses; mini skirts; bomber and motocross jackets; and scuba dresses. She then showed similar shapes in ikat prints.
For evening there were long, black dresses with even more slashes and hardware. The best shoes were super-high (natch) platform ankle wrap sandals. Oversize bags will probably be big sellers; some bright croc clutches added a good hit of color.
