VMAs: The Red Carpet Trend Report

Thanks to Kanye West, everyone is talking about last night's Video Music Awards. But while the stars are buzzing (and tweeting!) about how Kanye stole Taylor Swift's thunder, the fun red carpet fashions have taken a back seat. The VMAs are always more casual and adventurous than other awards shows and last night's fashions didn't disappoint (even the outrageous Lady GaGa outdid herself, arriving in a long, masked Jean Paul Gaultier dress with Kermit the Frog (yes, really!) as her date. The biggest trend of the night? Minidresses! Beyonce, Leighton Meester, Katy Perry, and J.Lo all wore sexy, short styles.

See who made our list...

Beyonce--who later called Taylor Swift upstage with her to accept the Video of the Year Award for "Single Ladies"--wore a plunging, vibrant red, ruffled Roberto Cavalli mini and over one million dollars of Lorraine Schwartz diamonds. PS. Love the cut-out sky high heels!

Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester amped up her Christian Cota metallic mini with Bottega Veneta's embellished clutch and Giuseppe Zanotti's studded futuristic booties.

Jennifer Lopez rocked Louis Vuitton's velvet-sleeved, drapey minidress with Christian Louboutin black lace and animal print peep-toe ankle boots.

The Hills alum Lauren Conrad came out to support MTV in a brushstroke black-and-white dress and a 1920s-esque curled, pinned up-do.
