FOUND: The Ultimate Sailor-Stripe Shirt

There are a few of us at Lucky (okay, make that the majority of us), who are on the eternal quest for the perfect sailor-stripe shirt. I know Emily Hsieh is pro L.L.Bean but I'm not crazy about the slight stretch/rib in the fabric and have always thought they're a bit too fitted. For me the holy grail is a boxy, heavy cotton Petit Bateau one (no longer produced) I've owned for almost 10 years that's pretty much on its last thread. Senior associate fashion editor Nicola Miller has the same top and she and I lament, weekly, the impossibility of finding replacements.

So, you can imagine my euphoriayesterday, at the Marie Saeki showroom (PR reps for Petit Bateau),upon laying eyes on the updated version of my beloved shirt. The sample isin red/white (but I immediately ordered the blue/white), it's a crew asopposed to boat neck and the sleeves are long instead of 3/4, but thefit and weight are an exact match of my old favorite. Marie sweetlygifted us the red/white one which I put on this morning and has beenmaking me happy all day. The shirt will be available in stores thisspring.
