As soon as this lovely look walked the 3.1 Phillip Lim spring 2010 runway in September, my D.I.Y. wheels started spinning. I knew I had a boring old cardigan stuffed in the back of my closet, and you probably do too! Here's a fun and easy way to bring it back to life.

YOU'LL NEED:
Cardigan sweater
Needle and black thread
Black buttons
Black ribbon

Step 1: I started with a boy's v-neck sweater from Uniqlo, which came with pearl grey buttons. The first step I took was to swap these out for matte black, to better blend under the bows.

Step 2: Next, I used silk bias ribbon to make a few floppy bows.

Step 3: Then I stitched the bows right above the buttonholes. Take care not to cover the holes--you've got to still be able to use them!

Step 4: Button it back up and you're done!

Note: Though you may wish to fancy up all your buttonholes, I chose not to add bows to the bottom two so I could more easily wear the cardigan tucked in (like Lim showed it on the runway). The choice is yours!
