I Stopped In For Shoes But Never Made It Upstairs
The new beauty department of the 59th Street Bloomingdale's is now over twice its former size. It really is an experience. The whole idea of the beauty counter is gone; each brand essentially has its own boutique space (most bigger than my apartment).
Mixed in with my favorites like Estee Lauder, Lancome, and Chanel, there is Shu Uemura, Jo Malone, Armani and Bare Escentuals.
What I liked best was the Bumble and bumble styling bar, the first-ever of its kind: For $35, you chose from 5 different "no wash, no appointment" styling services, and in about 20 minutes walk out with a sleek, smooth blowout, an easy up-do, or a loose, beachy wave look.
I stared at the M.A.C. installation for longer than I should have; there were just so many colors and jars of pigment and rows upon rows of lipstick to take in. Then there was the in-house Space.NK store, where you can stock up on Diptyque, Kate Somerville, and tons more. Amazing.
