INA Launches Its Own Line!

INA, my all-time favorite consignment store in NYC (and the spot where I routinely blow half of my paycheck), has launched its own label hitting stores now. The first few pieces are classic coats in wool and cashmere, starting at $375. I caught up with owner Ina Bernstein to chat about her inspiration and what's next for the store.

Q: When does the line launch ?

A: The first INA label pieces just arrived in our stores. It is an item-driven label. We have no have plans now to mass produce.

Q: What inspired you to start your own brand?

A: We decided to start our own label because in our stores, we only get one of everything. We realized that it would be nice if we had more of certain basic items, pieces that would fit easily into our customers' wardrobes [along with] with the designer pieces.

Q: How did the design process work?

A: Last year we started talking about doing a jacket and everyone mentioned a pea coat, so we decided that would be our first INA label item. We designed it collaboratively with everyone that works in the stores. Not too trendy, not too avant-garde: We want to make items that will appeal to our broad customer base.

Q: Any hints for how the line will expand come spring?

A: We want to design pieces that will be colorful, both in prints and solids. Again, pieces that could easily fit into your spring wardrobes--maybe one great blazer, a couple tops and one or two dresses.
