My Heel Phobia vs. Fashion's Wild Pairs
I'm fully addicted to flats. I buy beautiful heels with every intention of wearing them, but then I put them on in the morning and feel far too tall or overdressed or just want to be comfy. I will admit they do wonderful things for the legs (if not the feet), but still I shy away.
Left: Alexander McQueen; Right: Versace
Enter spring 2010 and the season of wild heels. If these runways are any indicator of what's to come (and they most certainly are), I'm going to have to jump whole-hog on the stiletto bandwagon. But designers weren't content to just go sky-high. Proenza Schouler added laces and an undulating heel, Miu Miu went for what seems like a sweet version of a disco heel--or something Ginger Spice would have worn, and then there are McQueen's now infamous pairs that are in a category all their own. Do these intimidate anyone else, even just a little bit? Could you wear them?
Well timidity be damned. Tonight I'm going out in my tallest and most extravagant heels: a beautiful pair that were more than graciously gifted to me by my editor Danielle. If my 90-year-old grandma can still rock heels every day (really, she does) then I think it's time I shelve my flats for a night.
