A Report From Nike's Training Summit
I just got back from Nike's Spring/Summer 2010 Training Summit in Vancouver B.C. (home of the 2010 Winter Olympics). Besides feeling lousy and embarrassed at my lack of physical fitness--I am barely able to walk today after being subjected to a grueling workout based on what Olympic athletes do to train--here's what I actually enjoyed about the trip:
1. Chatting with 6-time national champion and Team USA curler Nicole Joraanstad about shopping--one of her favorite pastimes when she's not curling (Did you know that a game of curling lasts 2.5 hours!?). She said she loves BKE Buckle jeans, Coach bags and Express and The Limited for work clothes. On her list of purchases for fall: a great leather bomber jacket. Nicole nicely agreed to take a picture with me (how cute is she!)
2. Sneaking a peak at the Nike Zoom Air limited edition kicks every US female Olympic qualifier will receive.
3. Checking out the Richmond Olympic Oval (it's the equivalent of Beijing's Olympics bird nest). The ceiling is made of salvaged wood that was damaged by a pine-beetle infestation. Another sustainability resource is captured rainwater that is used for the ice rinks.
