Opening Ceremony Focuses on Footwear Collaborations
Opening Ceremonyis no stranger to collaborations. The retailer, which debuted its first shop in NYC and has since expanded to Los Angeles and Tokyo, recently teamed up with Pendleton, as well as Betsey Johnson (specifically, to relaunch pieces from her archive in honor of her 30th anniversary). But, for now, the boutique seems to have set its sights on footwear collaborations with not one but two brands that are a true blast from the past.
First off is Chloé Sevigny's partnership with Bass shoes. The actress-turned-designer created a capsule collection of both men's and women's wear for Opening Ceremony this fall, which included a particular pair of buckle wedges that are sure to be remembered as one of the season's most heavily demanded styles. But, as the icing on her capsule collection cake, Sevigny has paired herself with Bass. The three style shoe collection includes updates on Bass' classic Weejun, ranger boot, and saddle shoe (which includes a high-top version with leather panels).
Also on the boutique's FW09 agenda: a collaboration with Pro-Keds. The latter's classic 1916 sneaker is getting modernized; think classic Americana by way of "red, white & blue styles in faded washes, bandana prints and even denim," says Diane Pernet of A Shaded View on Fashion.
