Parisian Charm Down South
My time in Savannah this past weekend was lovely but all too short, especially after a nightmare travel day on Friday (the flight I'd booked was abruptly canceled, which lead to a very long, very aggravating sequence of events I'll spare you the details of here). I tried to make the most of Saturday, indulging in not one but two lunches--the fried green tomato BLT at Vic's and pulled pork sliders at Barnes were both too good to pass up--and in-between, walked around to scope out the city's shopping scene.
My favorite boutique was The Paris Market & Brocante, which is filled with vintage bric-a-brac and antique furniture, plus a whole bunch of new accessories and apothecary goods with a similarly old world feel. I didn't have as much time as I would've liked to browse, so I spent this morning poring over their site, which offers a decent overview of what's in the Broughton Street store. A few of standouts: these mismatched silver-plated napkin rings that double as placecard holders (surprisingly, the set of six is only $14.95), beautifully embellihed Masonic collars which can be used as curtain tiebacks, and this chef's candle laced with basil extracts by a British company called Price's that's meant to eliminate any lingering kitchen odors (especially useful for cramped New York City apartments).
