The Answer To My Boot Prayers, Almost
So remember how yesterday I was going on about my search for new fall boots with not-too-high heels? Well, I think I may have found them.
Behold: Rachel Comey's Barbaro ankle boots. I really think I need them in my life. The thick wood heel is sort of a cross between a wedge and a Cuban--either way, totally comfortable. The toe is rounded so you don't have to worry about pinching your feet. But the detail that really sells me are the two buckled straps that cup each heel, giving them a rock edge (though not so tough you have to worry about whether you're badass enough to pull them off, as daisyj put it yesterday). I love the idea of pairing them with skinny ankle-length jeans to expose the straps. They're rugged but urbane, and classic enough that I can see myself wearing them for years. And while at $319-$338 (price varies from site to site) they're definitely not cheap, that's a huge improvement over $845, and if you were to wear them as much as I would the cost-per-use breakdown makes them worth the investment. The only problem? They seem to be sold out everywhere, at least in black. Mohawk General Store has them in a 10 (not my size. Ugh!), but in brown you can still find a good supply at Anthropologie.
