The New and Improved Eileen Fisher
Like everyone else, I'd relegated Eileen Fisher as a line for older boho/New Age-y ladies. After reading the New York Times article about the company's turnaround and their play for a younger customer, I decided to go to their site to see what all the fuss was about.
There's actually a bunch of elegant, streamlined (and totally non-geriatric) stuff I could imagine getting a ton of use out of. Topping my list is this down jacket. It took me about eight years on the east coast to realize this, but they're essential for getting through the dead of winter (Seriously. Layer all you want, but nothing keeps you warm like one of these). It's so hard to find something that's legitimately stylish, and I love the dramatic collar and really sleek, not-too-puffy silhouette of this one. A hidden drawstring inside the coat works to define your waist, and the collar can actually be worn a bunch of different ways (pulled all the way up it not only looks cool and vampire-ish but protects your neck and face from cold wind). Also worth mentioning: this perfectly slouchy cardigan made of sustainable Peruvian alpaca (I could live in this sweater) and this wear-it-a-million-different-ways wrap dress in black silk jersey.
Click around the site--what do you think of Eileen Fisher's new look?
