As Long as We're on the Subject of Longstanding Beauty Favorites...What Are Yours?

Jean's got Frederic Malle's* Lipstick Rose. I, too, must admit to a Malle fixation: Cologne Bigarade, a bitter orange/black pepper/cedar perfume that sat next to my mousepad when I was a fresh-out-of-college beauty assistant. It's bright and bracing, un-frilly and vaguely androgynous--and so I would spritz it on any time I was feeling confused or tired or unsure of myself. Which was...often. I STILL love it. I hope everyone who sits around me loves it too.

*Frederic Malle is the man responsible for ALL of my very favorite perfumes (me and basically every other beauty editor I know), and I have a devastating, unwavering crush on him. I haven't been able to write about him until now because whatever I write will NOT DO HIM JUSTICE. Nonetheless: His perfumes are unlike anything else. If you live near a Barneys, spend 20 minutes in the beauty section smelling all of them; if you live in New York, go to the brand-new Frederic Malle boutique on Madison and 72nd, and stay for an hour--where, if you're lucky, you will get to meet the man himself, who is brilliant and dreamy and VERY French, and will pick out a scent so perfect for you that you'll wear it until you're 90.
