Banana Republic Gets Automated
This mega-retailer is undergoing a 21st-century techno upgrade. By far the coolest additions: fitting-room checkout (done by a sales associate while you change back in to your own clothes) and in-store computers that track sold-out items you can buy on the spot and have shipped home for free.
The first signs of this transformation are already underway in Las Vegas, Scottsdale, and huge New York City Soho flagship--and more stores are in the works for 2010.
