Calendar for a Cause Makes a Great Gift, Too!
Karyn Kloumann is a Brooklyn-based designer (and former Lucky staffer) with a penchant for people watching. Combine that habit with an artistic temperament, put it in the best people-watching city in the world, and you have the very compelling sketchblog A New York Eye. "My drawings are ultimately a kind of love letter to New York City," writes Karyn, and she's compiled 13 of her best watercolor love notes into a very charming 2010 calendar (12 months, plus one for good luck!).
Karyn self-published her calendar on Lulu.com and is donating all the profits to Kiva.org, an organization that sets up microloans to entrepreneurial individuals and families in developing countries. Her goal is to raise enough for 10 microloans by the end of January 2010, and with seven more to go, she's tracking her progress on here on her website.
Lulu, the publishing company, is currently running a promotion: Use the promo code HALF at checkout when you buy two calendars and you get the second for half-price. Hurry, this offer ends on November 15, and the calendars make great gifts--a few Lucky editors have alreadyordered bunches of them to give to friends this holiday season. The characters are charming, the captions are witty, and thecause is a good one.
