Solving my '80s-revival dilemma

Similar to when I was dorky preteen in the actual '80s, the current '80s fashion revival is making me feel left out and uncool. However, I think I've found a solution and it does not involve tattered tops, metallic leggings or paying the popular kids to sit at their lunch table. It just involves one very stylish lady from 1985.
St-Elmos-Fire_large.jpgThough Sixteen Candles was more my speed, I've always had a deep and abiding affection for St. Elmo's Fire, particularly Demi Moore's amazingly sexy, bad-girl basket case, Jules. Moore's character wore fabulous clothes, spent money with abandon, dated rich guys and had a crazy pink apartment where she drank special fruity cocktails while wrapped in a fluffy robe. She made shoulder pads and big gawdyw141-1.jpg jewelry look hot, not cheap. It was awesome. Thumbnail image for 187168867_tp.jpgUnlike my previous '80s style icon--Elizabeth McGovern in She's Having a Baby--Jules is having loads and loads of fun in this decadea1-12.jpg (well, until she's not, but, at the end of the movie, things are looking up!). And, so, I've decided she will be my new fashion compass, a North Star to guide me through this murky sartorial time. My first Jules-inspired outfit includes a bunch of unmatching bangles, these gold-rimmed sunglasses (I think I seriously found the EXACT style on eBay!), a cozy bright red shawl and a roomy, slouchy coat that has that "I look like a tiny lady inside this big coat" appeal. I love this look. You should try it too.
