What makes you feel glamorous?

When I was growing up, my mother was a champion at getting dolled up for big events. She had her own dressing room--it wasn't anything fancy, just a mauve-painted space two stairs down from her bedroom with a closet, a vanity, a full length mirror and a sink. When it was time for her to get ready, I would sit on the top step and watch as she methodically applied makeup, did elaborate things with her hair, chose jewelry, spritzed perfume and, finally, put on a fancy dress or fancy pants or a skirt and blouse or whatever the going-out outfit might be. It was little girl dress-up heaven and it's probably why I love fashion today.

Something about the posters by '70s artist Patrick Nagel--which I spotted this week in the New York mag gift guide--totally reminds me of those dressing room rituals, of the moments when I started to appreciate all of the great, glamorous facets of being female. I'm considering splurging on at least one, placing it above a vanity, pouring a glass of wine, and spending a long time doing my hair.

P.S. Nagel worked for Playboy in the '70s, too, so there are loads of his provocative, sexy (read: naked) prints available, but I'm specifically looking for his minimalist, elegant, clothed and Dynasty -esque portraits of women.
