What's Your Irrational Splurge?
We all have our indulgences--things you spend money on that your logical mind knows is absurd and yet you do it anyway because, however overpriced, the expense is still disproportionate to how happy it makes you. For some, it's $5 lattes, for me, it's Marvis toothpaste.
It's not only the absolute best-tasting toothpaste on the market (I've tried them all, but Aquatic Mint is my favorite)--so bright and clean and fresh, not too sweet, and with just the right level of intensity--but it's the most beautifully packaged. I'd argue it's actually part of my bathroom decor, since it's one of the few things I leave exposed on my counter. I love the old-timey design: from the serious wigged man on the front of the tube to the fanciful, scalloped edged cap, it looks straight out of the Enlightenment era. This stuff turns the seriously mundane task of teeth-brushing into an actual pleasure. So for me at least, this is nine bucks* well spent.
Now it's your turn: all pragmatism aside, what's the thing you can't resist?
* From now through this Friday, 11/6 at midnight PST, everything--including Marvis--is 20 percent off at beauty.com. I just stocked up on a few tubes at $7.20 apiece. The discount is applied automatically at checkout. Don't forget you can also order from drugstore.com at the same time, and shipping is free if you spend $49.What's with All the Spam in the Comments Section?
