A Cool New Hat. Oh, And Got Any Tips For Fighting Hair Static?
It suddenly got aggressively cold in New York City and I'm desperate for a new stay-warm trick. After listening to the wind howl against my living room windows all morning, I've been on a mission to find a hat--something I've always avoided since for whatever reason every one I've tried makes me feel dweeby, and because I'm paranoid that all that hair-wool contact is going to result in some hardcore static.
I found this cap-bonnet hybrid on La Garconne and am intrigued. I like that it's adjustable, so you can control how snug it is against your head (to steer clear of hair flattening side effects). And stylistically, it's feminine and sophisticated, so you don't run the risk of looking too little boy-ish (which was another issue of mine with the other hats I've tried). It also gets major bonus points for its ability to double as a neck warmer, so if the dweeby feeling creeps up again I'd still be able to get a lot of use out of this piece, especially in this goes-with-everything charcoal grey.
But as for the static part, I'm pretty stumped. Do you guys have experience in this arena? Like, do you find that wool makes your hair less (or more) static-y, then say cashmere or fur? Or is there a magic beauty product, some kind of leave-in conditioner maybe, that I should be using that would really help? As it is I can barely deal with the crazy static I get from wearing a scarf, and I imagine throwing a woolly hat into the mix would only exacerbate the problem.
