The Best Smelling Place (and Candle) on Earth!
I have been to the Gramercy Park Hotel a total of three times now, and every time I walk into the lobby there is the most incredible smell: It's as if you've stepped into a human-size cedar cabinet that hasn't been opened in a hundred years. An earthy-woodsy-old-floorboard fantasia, but in a totally good way, not mothball-dusty at all.
So, I went up to the front desk and asked them just how they did it. The formula: a combination of a Le Labo candle (called Cade 26) that's made exclusively for the GPH and burning pinon wood in the fireplace.
You can purchase the candle directly from the hotel; here's their info. But, Le Labo does make something similar on their website: the smokey-woodsy Santal 26.
