Yay or Nay: Bathroom Scales?

I'd always been completely disinterested in knowing how much I weigh, instead relying on the fit of my clothes to tell me if my shape changed. When I was in Las Vegas the other weekend though, there was a bathroom scale in my hotel room. I found myself stepping on several times a day, sort of as a science experiment to see how the numbers shifted from morning to night, and now I think I might want a scale of my own--but is that just a recipe for body dysmorphic unhappiness?

I've always tried not to be too critical of my physique, and I certainly don't want to start now, but maybe scales are a good way to stay motivated to eat well and avoid the incremental weight gain that naturally just happens as we get older. Like, why wait for your pants not to fit to do something about it? I'd rather be gently reminded to make good choices to keep myself in check than ever get to a place where I feel like I need to dramatically reinvent my routine. On the flip side, I know that there's a bogus element to the numbers--it's not that they lie, but if I actually worked out and built up more muscle (even if it meant getting leaner and healthier in the process) I'd weigh more... which leads me back to the just-see-how-your-clothes-fit standpoint.

What do you guys think?

Also: were I to get a scale, and if I had space on my bathroom floor for something with these proportions, I'd go for this old-school looking Health O Meter.
