Page 79 of the February Issue is Changing Everything For Me.
Now that the February Lucky is out, I can finally talk about the greatest makeup epiphany I've had in years. I've always liked strong brows (I am SO in agreement with Rachel Siegel about the fabulousness of Emma Watson's) and yet it took our brow story on page 79 to get me to actually pay attention to my own: Conscientious, less-is-more plucking, filling in the two sad sparse areas above my pupils (my ongoing punishment for the over-zealous tweezing period of 1998-2001), bothering to learn what the hell a brow gel is, anyway. And then, the epiphany: If you make your brows look great, you can slack off on everything else . And trust me, I do. Eyeliner, blush, even concealer--it all becomes unimportant if you do your brows well. These are the two things I'm currently using in tandem:
1) Tarte EmphasEyes brow pencil: Like the company's EmphasEyes eyeliner, the point is super-super-super-fine--and it doesn't deposit that much pigment (a good thing, when it comes to brows). It's the perfect non-color color.
2) MAC's newish brow gel: The brilliance of tinted brow gel, as I've finally understood, is that it subtly darkens already existing hairs that would otherwise be completely invisible-yet it never, EVER makes it look as though you've taken a Sharpie your brows. Plus once dry, it ensures that the hairs stay where you want them.
I know this sounds like some next-level obsessiveness, but seriously--just try doing it once. Just go to a Sephora and try it. By the end of the day, I swear someone will compliment you, in a nice, vague, "you look really pretty today, what's different" sort of way.
