Tips From a CheapChica: 5 Steps to Carefree Curls
Philly NBC correspondent Lilliana Vazquez's blog, CheapChicas.com, is an ode to style under $100--and we always want everything she writes about. This week, she's sharing her incredibly affordable finds on Lucky Right Now.
Despite the rain at this year's Golden Globes, some of Hollywood's biggest names managed to get down the red carpet without a bad hair day! The key to their success? Sexy, deconstructed curls and an army of hair stylists.
But if you can't afford to have your own celebrity hair stylist on speed dial, don't worry...this look is easy to achieve at home if you have the right tools.
Here's what you'll need:
1 1/2" Hot Toolscurling iron, $24.49
Don't use anything smaller than an 1 1/2" curling iron. These larger irons are perfect for creating soft waves that are romantic and natural looking.
Double prong curl clips, $4.99
The key to making this style last through rain, humidity and a long day is setting each curl with a loose pin. Yup, just like grandma used to!
Hairspray, $4.49
Make sure you find one with "flexible hold" so you don't end up with crunchy curls!
Follow these easy steps below and you can have loose, flirty waves that are red carpet worthy!
Step 1: Blow-dry your hair with a large round brush to help create natural volume.
Step 2: Starting at the front, take 2" sections (no more!) and with a big barrel curling iron, curl the hair away from your face.
Step 3: Hold for at least 5 seconds (don't worry, your hair won't burn off!) and then release.
Step 4: Wrap the curl back up loosely and secure it to your head with a clip.
(Repeat steps 2-4 until you've done your entire head)
Step 5: Remove clips, gently break curls apart with your fingertips and spray lightly.
