4 Questions For: Charlotte Dellal

In this new video series, some of our favorite designers spill on their inspirations and Fashion Week survival tips.

I'll admit it: I have a total girl crush on shoe designer CharlotteDellal. I've been obsessed with her line Charlotte Olympia (the namedrawn from her first and middle names) ever since a pair ofvertiginous-heighted leopard-print heels first popped up stateside atGeminola in the West Village a few years ago. I love her personal style, which draws strongly on a bygone '40s-era glamour with a really fresh,21st-century spin.

This fall is all about Gothic Romanticism--gem colors reminiscent ofstained glass windows in rich satin silks, patent leathers, and lasercut leather. This season she's collaborated with jewelry designerDominic Jones, who created the delicate gold spider-shaped buckles. And, as shementions in the video, each shoe will now be coming with a matchingpair of colored stockings.

I quicklyfound out years ago that they do not work for a day of seriouswalking unless you have strong ankles (I, alas, do not). Butthey do make for really hot party shoes. My leopard ones are still aconversation starter. The platform bottoms are there for a reason:they're like stepping--or standing, canape in hand--on cushy cloud puffs.

Here's Charlotte's favorite pair from the fall collection. And the matching tights that come with them.

Laser-cut leather, made to look like gothic lace.

Sensible flats that are nothing short of cool--these double-strapballet flats also come in the same jewel-tone satins as the heels.
