My Charles Anastase-Inspired D.I.Y. Shoe Project

In the same way I'll chop inches off a hem or change the length of a sleeve to breathe new life into an old garment, I've always wished I could do something inspiring and D.I.Y.-ish to my shoes. The awesome footwear at Charles Anastase's fall show here in London gave me a great idea: I can sponge paint them.

It's so easy: Tarrango does leather dye kits in tons of colors that I've used to give leather motorcycle jackets, shoes, and bags an all-over color change, but if you take the little sponge that comes in the kit and just press it randomly all over your shoes (or bag for that matter), you'll be able to replicate Anastase's artsy-vintage texture.

I love the black-on-bright combination, but I'm also keen to try pastels on my spring footwear. I plan to take light pink leather paint to my mint green wedges my first weekend back in NYC.
